Interactive installation2026

Homecoming

An interactive art installation questioning how we memorialize and archive people.

This installation is based on my grandfather's practice of memorializing the attendees of my childhood church. I studied his pencil drawn technique and recreated it digitally. I recreated this analogue approach to memorialization with real-time computer vision and machine learning to interrogate how contemporary memory-making technologies simultaneously honor and erase us—flattening identity while also allowing it to persist beyond our physical presence. Pose in front of this piece to create a numbered group photo, and scan the QR code to save your photo and preserve the record of your visit and the people you shared it with.

The physical structure is designed to imitate real-life video visitation systems used to facilitate calls between inmates and their visitors. It uses a number pad for all interactions by the user, giving an analog feel. I built an arduino circuit to translate the inputs.

A team project designing an Apple Vision experience for BMW vehicle shoppers to improve engagement and purchase rates. In my role I developed our prototype in the headset using Unity, and presented our research and development to BMW stakeholders. My team tested Apple Vision Pro interaction methods, networking capabilities, and rendering of assets from the art and design teams. We explored the feasability of various features the research team wanted us to test out through reviewing documentation, developing demos of specific features, and then showing the relevant teams how their concepts looked in the actual app.

We conducted secondary research into exhibits at other heritage centers, museums, and educational institutions that have effectively engaged visitors through historical or urban planning exhibits. Our focus was on identifying effective use of technology, successful spatial layouts, and best practices in visitor engagement. Visitors would click through sequences of engaging historical content that utilize projection mapping and animations to teach about the history of Savannah's city design.

Out of Order is a collection of poster prints and mixed media works which feature Augmented Reality (AR) components overlayed on the viewer's smartphone camera screen. The series represents my auto-ethnographic research into my experience as a queer Christian amidst intensified cultural conflicts surrounding identity politics in American life. The pieces utilize AR technology and incorporate visual nods to digital media, offering a unique perspective shaped by my background as a technologist and digital native. Through this innovative medium, Out of Order invites viewers to reflect on the struggles of navigating complex intersectional identities in the digital age.
